Vacation Drama

Day 4

My old post got popped due to my SIL's shitty laptop.  The short version is that they dragged shit out all day because my BIL's kid fucked up by dragging a wagon over my daughter's foot, and pulling his step brother's hair.  That's right, he's a bitch, and he's 7.  They argue and the family tries to get into it, and I put my foot down and tell them to chill the fuck out because I'm hung over from the night before.  They work it out, I get to play some Rock Band.  Everyone is happy.  I prep for dinner to some Volbeat, Shinedown, and some Rise Against.

We had a wine selection of...

A GSM from Rosemount, 2006, Show Reserve.

I trully like Rosemount's higher end wines, they never fail.  (Let breathe for 30 min)

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2293.jpg

A Gwerztraminer, Vin D' Alsace

Very nice, and fruity, extremely drinkable on the back deck.

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2293.jpg

Lastly, a Pierette et Marc, Guillette Michel

Very Nice, a bit too dry for me, as the flavor seemed to die off too soon.

Overall, a day of recovery.

Tomorrow, Date night and a local wine tasting at Whalehead.

Peace

Vacation Day 3

Wed, 07/27/2011 - 08:00 — Rau

Someone told me that I wouldn't have to work while I'm on vacation, but in the end I knew I would. Every few years or so, I end playing marriage counselor to my brother and sister in law. This instance went down after a couple of hours of Bastion with my son cheering me on. My BIL and SIL argue over how to parent her child, as it's not his and he has another child which is not hers. So he makes a parenting decision that she doesnt agree with and all hell breaks loose. Thankfully it didnt come to a head until after dinner. Which was Cuban Pork Roast, yummy.

Lots of Wine

1.5 Liter bottle of Seasmoke. So the story is, my dad landed an alotment of Seasmoke just prior to the movie Sideways being released. Noted for its Pinot Noir they also have a very TASTY Chardonay. Perfect in every way.

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2283.jpg

Followed By EarthQuake 2008, A really nice Zinfandel ($30)

I can't tell you how much I liked this Zin. If you want to impress someone, try this.

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2290.jpg

Follwed by Four Vines, another 2008 Zinfandel.

I dont remember where I got this, but it had been in a box in my pantry for a while. 90 point wine, and tasty, but it is no Earthquake.

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2291.jpg

Afterwards we dined, someone said some shit to someone, and my BIL took a walk for 2 hours with his mother chasing after him. DRAMA!!!

While we waited, we finished off some...

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2282.jpg

My SIL goes to bed with the baby, my BIL comes back and has a smoke outside, but prior to him coming back he of course went into the room and rumaged around and woke up his wife. This prompts the beginning of an hour long argument that the neighborhood was laughing about, but who cares, we won't see these people again. Needless to say, who shows up?........Not the cops, we aren't that white trash. But Ice Cold Captain Morgan Private stock and 4 shot glasses. My wife, my father inlaw, myself and my BIL taking shots because he needed to vent. SIL comes up after about the second round of shots, and let the marriage counseling begin. My SIL always has to be right, and my BIL has no spine, and likes to make fatalistic statements like, maybe I shouldnt be here then, or how can we salvage this marriage. After about an hour of playing the mediator, things are settled and the bottle is almost empty. No vomitting, but definitely a hangover from hell.

Next up, mynight to cook, and more DRAMA...because no one won, it must continue.

Beach Vacation Drinking

Mon, 07/25/2011 - 17:29 — Rau

We are currently down in Corolla, NC, living it up as best we can in this "Summer of Recovery." So when my father and I get together we tend to attempt to clean out as much of his drinkable wines as we can. Not to mention as many beers as humanly possible. Our first night was filled with pizza, some wine and some beers. Prior to dinner we drank some Blue Moon Pale Ale, which was pretty good. I had their Belgian White, which im not a fan of. The wine was a rose', called Yin Yang, fairly dry with a nice hint of fruit. We followed it up with a 90+ point wine called Atalya from Spain. It was pretty good, and once it openned up my father and I killed it with the displeasure of my wife and mother-in-law. (They wanted some more as well). We ended the evening with some good politcal commentary, which prompted is to open "Persia" I don't have much recollection of the bottle, but when we hit the other bottle later this week, I will post a picture.

Politics leads to drinking, and too much political drinking leads to vomitting. I hadn't yakked in quite a while, and I'm pretty thankful I did, as I'm sure I would have been wrecked the following day. Losing my cookies over the side rail at 1am meant that I prevented a nice mess inside the house. Unfortunately, the stairs on the side of the house were now covered in pinkish red goodness. Being pitch black I poured about 10 pitchers of water over the side of the balcony, thinking I was safe. Fast Forward to 630am, and I look outside, and it looked as though someone had been shot and bled to death. This prompted me to get out the house and sponge. Half way through, my brother in law TMX comes back from a walk on the beach with his wife yelling, SHAME SHAME KNOW YOUR NAME. (Nice Goonies reference). Overall, a successful good first day.

DAY 2

Great days at the pool and the beach. No hellish driving, and lots of good Spirits.

Up First, Brooklyn, Local 1

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2268.jpg

Good Nose, Some Carabean Spices like cloves and alspice

Light-Dry-Hoppy, Nice Gold Color

Up Next

Saisson Dupont

A typical Belgian Beer (white)

Not my favorite, but drinkable. It had a rounded dull finish, was light and fruity.

For Dinner

Schwarz Wise Company, 2008 Granache, Barossa Valley

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo93/Rau/IMG_2270.jpg

I liked this a lot.

Hints of Blueberries, and Blackberries, full bodied and a nice finish.

Drink this now, don't save it.

Lazy evening as it thundered and stormed, most people were worn out early.

Tomorrow, cuban pork and Seasmoke.

The ultimate review of reviews

Thu, 05/26/2011 - 16:54 — Rau

I just finished this review up, and anyone on the fence should probably pass.

http://www.2old2play.com/News/Dungeons_and_Dragons__Daggerdale_Review

Since the review, I have beaten the game, and I don't know what the developers were thinking.  At the end, there is a weird button pressing sequence similar to god of war needed  to defeat the last boss.  It came out of nowhere and had me scratching my head.  Best part about it, no loot or exp for beating the boss.  You end up back in 1 of the 3 stages which you can select at the menu, but zero quests.  :(

I wish I could have saved Mac and Istassi some cash before they bought it.
